GCSE results 2019
Shenley Brook End School students were celebrating after receiving excellent GCSE results.
Two-thirds of all Year 11 students gained five or more GCSEs at grade 4 or C or above, including Maths and English.
The new grading for GCSEs (9-1) that was only for English and Maths last year has been extended to the majority of other subjects; although there are still many graded at A* - G, and some qualifications have the grades Distinction* to Pass.
80% of all students gained a 4 or higher in English, 77% grained a 4 or higher in Maths and 75% did likewise in Science.
Half lf all students gained the equivalent of at least one 9-7/A*-A grade and a third grained at least one A*.
Seven students gained 5 or more subjects at the top possible grades (9/A*/Distinction*): Alex Pembery, Robyn Bodimeade-Firth, Victoria Rider, Katy Barnett, Kaz Bosson, Paris Sharples and Hannah Wu (picture above). Robyn and Victoria gained an amazing eight top marks and Alex achieved ten.
Science results were also excellent with 5 students gaining the new tougher top grade of 9 in all three sciences and nearly 40% of students taking the separate sciences gained the old A grade (7-9) in every one. Amazingly half our Music GCSE students gained grades 9 or 8 as did a third of our Philosophy & Ethics students and a quarter of our Drama students.
Headteacher Glen Martin said "I am please for everyone that their hard work has been rewarded with these fantastic results. Students, staff and parents have all contributed to these great results. I am looking forward to welcoming the students back into our sixth form. The partnership with The Hazeley Academy has paid dividends already at both schools with our results exceeding national expectations and we're looking forward to continuing this as a form Trust."
